24-hour modernized control of goods and passengers at borders introduced

24-hour control of the transport of passengers and goods at borders is provided through the upgraded one-stop shop system on permits for import, export and transit of goods and tariff quotas (EXIM system), which is now an electronic link between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Customs Administration.

"The introduction of the system on October 1 will be another blow to the unfair competition and time will be saved for controlling transporters," Transport Minister Mile Janakieski told a press conference held Wednesday with the director of the Customs Administration, Vanco Kargov.

The system will enable transport of good by local and foreign transporters to be completely registered, while illegal transportation will be reduced at the same time. Records will be kept for all kinds of transportation of passengers as they will be controlled and abuse of transport permits is set to be eliminated, according to him.

"Both the Ministry of Transport and the State Transport Inspectorate are going to have an insight into international transport in Macedonia and possible illegal transport. Economic operators on the other hand will cross borders for a shorter time. At the same time,  the accelerated control will significantly reduce and eliminate transition of foreign vehicles or buses on the territory of Macedonia that steal the businesses of local transporters," Kargov stated.

2nd Fair of Transport and Logistics opens in Skopje

Overhaul and construction of new projects in road and rail infrastructure will contribute to improving the state of Macedonian transportation and logistic sector, anticipating the economy to be revived.

This was concluded Wednesday at the opening of the second International Fair of Transport and Logistics, which brings together over 30 representatives of transportation and logistic companies from Macedonia and the region.

Economy Minister Valon Saraqini said that transport and logistic were one of the key factors in boosting trade exchange and contributed to improving the business climate, instigating economic development and connecting global economic courses.

"The government will resume its efforts and activities to improve road infrastructure and create conditions to develop the transportation sector," Saraqini said opening the fair.

Regional maritime ports in Thessaloniki and Durres, MCS shipping company and Chinese Cosco shipping company through Thessaloniki port, Macedonian Railroads Transport Skopje, FEDEX, Fershped, and many other companies are going to be promoted at the fair.

The 2nd International Fair of Transport and Logistics runs till September 29.

Macedonia and Norway sign Transport Liberalization

Macedonia and Norway have agreed on liberalization of bilateral and transit transport for vehicles possessing Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards, following the signing of a protocol at the meeting of the mixed committee on international road transport, held in Oslo on September 12-13.

The protocol also refers to a contingent of 150 bilateral transit permits for Euro 3 vehicles, as well as 20 bilateral transit permits for Euro 2 vehicles and those with lower standards.

A contingent of permits for transport to and from third countries, which is by 125 percent higher compared to the previous quota, has also been agreed, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said in a press release.

Macedonia, Singapore initial air transport agreement

Skopje, 24 May 2012 (MIA) - Director of Macedonia's Civil Aviation Agency Dejan Mojsoski and the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Yap Ong Heng initialed Thursday in Singapore a bilateral air transport agreement and signed a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

The open skies agreement creates a legal framework for the promotion of international air transport based on the concept of liberalisation in order passengers to be offered a wider range of services while also providing highly secured air transportation, the Civil Aviation Agency says.

The open skies agreement is in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) policy, which is promoted by the two countries.

Both directors at the meeting welcomed the favourable diplomatic relations between the countries and accentuated the importance of initializing the agreement, which is expected to bolster bilateral relations, create potentials for possible business investments, develop tourism and intercontinental connection.

Skywings airlines unveiled a EUR 500.000 investment in the construction of a hotel near Skopje's Alexander the Great Airport. The Chairman of the Skywings Board of Directors, Ajan Dzaferoski, announced the ambitious plan on Monday, during the inaugural flight Skopje-Brussels. Dzaferoski stressed that the construction of the hotel is set to begin in March next year. Constructions works are scheduled for completion by June 2010. The project envisages a 20-room hotel, which is to accommodate the Skywings crews. The airline's headquarters will move into the hotel. On Monday, Skywings in cooperation with Air Lift Service launched new flight Skopje-Brussels. On Sunday, the airline is expected to launch another flight Skopje-Rome. A new flight Skopje-Bergamo (near Milan) will be launched on November 10. The Skopje-registered airline Skywings is also operating flights to Istanbul, Zurich and Dusseldorf from Skopje. Skywings initially operates with one Boeing 737-300 aircraft. The airline with operate with two Boeing 737-300 as of December
