Tourists from Greece with most visits to Macedonia

According to the data of the State Statistical Office, the number of tourists visiting Macedonia in March 2013 was at 34.495, while overnight stay at 73.241.

The State Statistical Office says a total of 5.019 Greek tourists visited Macedonia in March, followed by guests from Serbia - 2.615 and Turkey - 2.578. The country's capital Skopje welcomed a total of 11.158 tourists.

The number of tourists in March 2013, compared to same period last year, is higher for 7.5%, and of overnight stay for 10.2%.

The number of domestic tourists in March 2013, compared to last March, decreased by 8.8%, while the number of foreign ones increased by 18.4%.

The number of nights spent by domestic tourists in March 2013 decreased by 4.5%, whereas the number of overnight stay by foreign tourists increased by 22.6%.

The number of tourists in the period January - March 2013, compared to the same period last year, increased by 2.8%. The number of domestic ones decreased by 1.5%, while that of foreign tourists increased by 5.9%.

The number of nights spent in the period January - March 2013, compared to the same period last year, increased by 4.3%. The number of nights spent by domestic tourists increased by 1.4%, while those by foreign ones increased by 6.9%.

TeknoHose Opens Macedonian Plant

Italian company “TeknoHose” will put into use Monday its plant in Macedonia, located in Technological Industrial Development Zone (TDIZ) Skopje 1. The investment stands at EUR 10 million, with the plant creating 150 jobs.

The plant will produce high pressure reinforced rubber hoses, used in construction, automotive industry etc. Output will be distributed to markets in the countries of Southeast Europe and Russia.

Company “TeknoHose”, registered in Macedonia under name “Vitek Macedonia”, is a member of Italy’s Vitillo Group. It purchased an existing facility in TIDZ Skopje 1, which has been completely built and adapted.

The company plans to start the construction of a second facility in 2013 for production of hydraulic couplings for reinforced hoses.

Foreign tourists satisfied with their stay in Ohrid

Foreign tourists are content with their stay in Ohrid, show results of a survey conducted by the Sector for Tourism and Local Economic Development of the Municipality of Ohrid.

The survey was carried out between August 15 and September 10 through open and anonymous questionnaires, which were distributed to hotels on the Ohrid riviera.

Guests who stayed in hotels 'Tino', 'Millennium', 'Garden', 'Inex', 'Belvedere', 'Granit', 'Sileks', 'Metropol', 'Bellevue', 'Desaret' and 'Makpetrol' - most of them from the Netherlands, Belgium and Serbia - praised the hospitality of Macedonian hosts and the attractiveness of the offer, pointing out several shortcomings and presenting their own suggestions.

The survey aims at probing guests' opinion and analysing their remarks in a bid to improve next year's tourist season.

Macedonia slow in attracting Foreign Investments

According to foreign direct investment influx last year, Macedonia took the penultimate place among regional countries, reads the latest report of the United Nations.With USD 293 million worth investments, Macedonia ranks better than Bosnia and Herzegovina, which reported USD 63 million worth foreign direct investments. Last year, Serbia ranked first with USD 1.3 billion, which is three times less than in 2006, when the country recorded record-breaking USD 4.2 billion. Albania followed with USD 1.970,000,000, Slovenia with USD 834 million and Croatia with only USD 583 million, compared to USD 6 billion in 2008.

The Macedonian Energy Agency has received 57 requests for the construction of solar power plants. Interest in the construction of solar power plants has increased drastically, especially among foreign investors.

A year ago, Macedonia had only one solar power plant, and now it has ten, some of which have already been finished, while others are in the final construction phase.
Most potential investors (35 of them) are foreign investors or combined Macedonian and foreign companies, which want to built power plants of bigger capacity.
