Macedonian Airports hit record passanger traffic

According to the statistical data by the operator TAV Macedonia, the number of transported passengers via both Macedonian airports in October increased by 37.6 percent compared to the same month last year, marking the highest monthly growth thus far.

A total of 88.992 passengers flew via Skopje Alexander the Great Airport and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, TAV Macedonia says.

The number of flights has gone up for 15.1 percent, while the cargo services increased for 4.9 percent in comparison to October 2012.

Istanbul has been the most popular destination in January-October 2013, followed by Vienna, Zurich, London and Malmo.

Number of airport passengers increases

The number of passengers at the two airports in Macedonia has increased by 6.1 percent over the past two months, compared to the same period in 2011.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications said in Thursday's press release that 200,516 passengers were transported at Skopje-based "Alexander the Great" and Ohrid-based "St. Paul the Apostle" in June and July, compared to the 189,019 in the same period last year.

Most notable is the rise in the number of passengers at the Ohrid airport, where 28,658 were registered, a 16.5-percent increase from last year.

In addition, the number of passengers at the Skopje airport amounted to 171,858, which is 4.5 percent higher compared to 2011.

Macedonia's airports welcome 6.000 passengers during New Year Holidays

During the New Year weekend Macedonia's airports welcomed 6.101 passengers, or 8 percent more in comparison to the same period last year, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said Tuesday in a press release.

The frequency of passengers reached its peak on the New Year's first day, when Skopje and Ohrid Airports handled 2,268 and 345 passengers respectively.

"Renovated airports in Skopje and Ohrid were opened last year. Skopje's Alexander the Great airport got a new passenger terminal, thus increasing its capacity to serving 4 million passengers per year," the press release reads.

Number of Air Passengers Increases in Skopje and Ohrid

In October, the number of passengers on airports in Macedonia increased in comparison with the same period last year.
According to the data published by the Macedonian Ministry of Transport a few days ago, the number of passengers on the Skopje and Ohrid airports reached 57,512, compared to 50,541 passengers last year.
The increase is a result of the increased number of passengers on the Skopje airport, which reported 56,180 passengers, which represents an increase of 17.1 percent. The number of regular flight lines grew as well, by 15.4 percent. In October, there were 689 regular lines compared to 597 lines last year.

Airports pay back Debts prior to TAV's takeover

Macedonian government is making the necessary preparations for the arrival of Turkey-based TAV, the company which is going to make investments in Macedonia airports.
The government reached a decision that Airports pay back the debt of EUR 2.5 million to Macedonian Air Traffic Control. The government says the debt has to be paid back by the end of February 2010. Furthermore, Air Traffic Control has to pay he installment of loan to EBRD a month before due date.
